Just 2km north of the palace, the Cueva de la Batida served as quarry for the ashlar blocks used to lay the foundation and show the corners of the palace.

the yellow sand of the Plazuela de Lasso
is made of the same calcarenita
as the ashlar blocks, but finely crushed.
